Founder and Lead Clinician
Dr Laura Gastaldi
MD, MRCGP
A GP with a clinical specialism in cancer and palliative care, 15 years into practice, who spends two days a week doing one thing: holding the clinical picture for patients whose cancer care is otherwise divided between several people and several buildings.

Route here
How the practice was arrived at.
2011
Qualifies in medicine, Milan
Medical degree at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, Milan — the teaching hospital of the San Raffaele Scientific Institute, and a training environment where academic medicine and clinical work sit in the same building.
2017
Joins the GMC register in the United Kingdom
Transfers her practice to the UK and enters general practice training, taking the deliberate step from hospital medicine into the specialty that follows a person across every part of their life rather than one organ system.
MRCGP
Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners
The professional qualification for general practice in the UK, examining clinical knowledge, applied judgement, and consultation skill.
Present
Lead of Cancer and Palliative Care, Bath Road Surgery, Hounslow
Salaried partner with clinical lead responsibility for cancer and palliative care across the practice population, and three years running a dedicated weekly cancer clinic with consistently strong patient and family feedback.
Now
Founds Thread
A private GP practice built around one observation from that weekly clinic: patients in cancer treatment are well served at the appointments, and largely unserved between them.
Regulation
How the practice is regulated.
Dr Gastaldi is registered with, and regulated by, the General Medical Council, and practises within the GMC's Good medical practice standards. She is indemnified by the Medical Protection Society (MPS) for the declared scope of this practice.
Consultations take place in a private hospital outpatient setting registered with the Care Quality Commission. Thread's own CQC position depends on the practitioner-privileges structure at the host hospital and is being settled before the first paid consultation; the practice will not see private patients until that question is closed and documented.
The practice is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office as a data controller, and clinical records are held in a UK-hosted electronic medical record. How your information is handled is set out in the privacy notice.
If any of this describes where you are.
Enquiries come from patients, from partners and adult children, and from clinicians. All three are welcome, and all three are answered by Dr Gastaldi within one working day.
